The rainy season had just ended, which meant the grass of the Savannah was lush. Lush grass leads to large herds and large herds meant a better chance for Zainabu to catch something for her and her little Damu. It wasn't easy being a lone lioness with a cub but it was the best, no the only choice she could make to protect herself and her cub from the newest tyrant that had taken over the small "pride" she was once part of.
The Impala she had been tracking had a gimp in its back leg, which meant it would not be able to push off the ground in an attempted leap to escape like the others of the heard. Crouching closer and closer she heard a twig snap, and unfortunately so did the impala, who all started to take off. Rushing to reach her target in time she cut a sharp left and launched herself at the impala in mid attempted leap. She heard the successful snap of her victims neck as their bodies twisted in mid air, landing hard on the ground with her body weight and fangs squeezing any possible life out of the body.
Once her prey was good and dead, Zainabu looked off to where the rest of the herd was fleeing. In seeing no other predator chasing the group she could only assume whoever had broken the silence and had set off the frenzy was still near, and possibly interested in taking her food so they didn't have to do any of the work. But in her heart she new that her and Damu couldn't go much longer without any food; it had already been three days. So she grabbed the limp body below her and started to flee, but the constant feeling of someone following her made her stop. If this keeps going I will lead them straight to Damu. Zainabu thought. Her mothering instincts took over and she turned to face whoever was following her, standing guard over her food and preparing for anything as she looked out into the grass for movement.
Suddenly..... (Take it from here Anyone!)
